Posting on Facebook and Twitter, but no one seems to care? Pouring your heart out on the perfect posts, but no comments appear after several hours or even days?
We are now in a generation where connections are as easy as flashes of light. People get connected in split seconds even from halfway around the world thanks to social media. But, what is happening to your social media situation? Why are there only a few people who seem interested in what you are posting, considering there are thousands of people online?
This is called a low social media engagement rate. Even though people may be online, they are not engaged or may not be interested enough to engage in your posts. Social media engagement is critical to creating connections and broadening your audience of followers. When people are engaged, they establish a strong following and loyalty to you that influences others, especially if they are influencers within their own networks. The more they are glued to your conversations and posts, the more their connections will take notice and join in as well.
So, how do you build this social media engagement in your content? Here are a few tips:
- Always establish a tone and have a point. Your post needs to have direction. You need to show them that you know what you are talking about. You need to keep them interested by sticking to the point and not rambling. When people see that you make sense, they will be more engaged to find out more.
- Post at the right time. How do you expect someone to comment on your post in the middle of the night? Try to find the perfect timing for your target audience. For instance, early hours of weekdays such as 8 am to 9am can be a perfect time to post relevant content to working people.
- Be creative. Don’t be boring and post different versions of the same content over and over again. It will appear repetitive to your audience, and they will likely become bored and disengage. Add variety to your post content and formatting. Add high quality photos or use infographics. Share videos. Create contests that your audience members will want to join.
- Write like you are talking to someone. Be real. Let your audience know and feel that you are human and they can easily talk to you. Avoid content that is too formal. Talk as if you are sharing something good to a friend.
- Stay on top of trends. Pay attention to what’s trending, so you can stay current and relevant when it comes to your content. If your content is outdated, it will either be overlooked or, worse yet, make you look out of touch and, therefore, not a good resource or product for people.
- Ask. Yes, simply ask a relevant and interesting question. This will encourage others to answer back or comment on your post. Add a call-to-action to every post, so your audience will be guided to responding to your posts.
Tag people. If you create a post that several people may find useful, tag them in the post. They will feel special and will also be more enthusiastic and inclined to engage and comment or share.
