Effective Social Media Strategies to Attract Millennials

Who are the Millennials?

People who born between 1982 to 2002 and in an age group of 18 to 34 are whom we called the Millennials. Oftentimes, they are referred to as Generation Y.

Millennials are people who were born during the advancement of technology. In other words, they were born in a world filled with cellphones, laptops, computers and televisions.

At recent times, these group of people are in the phase of their lives where they need to go through big decisions like getting married, starting a family, going through their first jobs and having a house of their own. To think of these life events is to also consider the huge selling opportunity of businesses to this generation.

However, they may be prone to more buying decisions, but Millennials are diverse in choices and personality. Despite the similarity of age, people in this generation have different perspectives hence posing a challenge for marketers to lure them into their respective brands or proposals.

Though such may indeed be a complex marketing process, the opportunities Millennials offer are worthy of attention. Millennials have a spending capacity of trillions of dollars every year.

So, how do you attract Millennials? What social media tactics will make them notice you?

  • Keep on promoting. “If at first you don’t succeed, try again.” This is a popular quote that is applicable to marketers dealing with Millennials. Keep on trying to encourage them, to promote to them and to attract them to your brand. The more you post on social media, at a tolerable and effective pace, the more they will notice you. Millennials are reliant on their mobile phones so they will be reminded of your existence.
  • Interact with them. Gone are the days when you just have to advertise your product and people buy. These days, you need to create a good business relationship with your prospects and one way to do so is to let them know you are there to help them and be friends with them. Encourage interaction in your social media posts. Post good response on their comments.
  • Treat them specifically, not generally. Remember, this age group is diverse in personality. Do not generalize Millennials for you will only out your efforts in vain. Take the time to understand them, know who you are dealing with and know what they like. Then target your interaction and marketing efforts based on what you found out about them.
  • Be updated and relevant. There are so many things going on and Millennials are always updated on these trends. If you post outdated information or facts, they will likely ignore you or trash you. Be relevant to what they currently believe in. Updated yourself with what’s trending to be in their group.

Keep it simple, short and straight-to-the-point. Millennials are busy people and they do not have the time to decipher your message in your lengthy post. Give it to them straight so they will appreciate your understanding of how they value their time.
