Blogging Mistakes Beginners Should Avoid

Blogging regularly can be of great benefit to your business. Continual updates to your blog can generate loyal followers, which are potential clients that you can work to convert. Blogs are an excellent platform to share information and connect with people, and people tend to only follow blogs if they are interesting and provide some sort of benefit to them.

On the flip side, blogs can also backfire and fail if not done properly. For that reason, it is important to educate yourself about certain mistakes to avoid, so you can make your blogging experience a much more efficient and fruitful one.

Below are some common mistakes in blogging that you should avoid:

  • Your posts don’t lead anywhere. You may have created a compelling post, but without any landing pages, you may have trouble converting your visitors-turned-followers into customers. Your landing pages give your followers a call-to-action that is beneficial to your business.
  • You don’t optimize your content. The good thing about blogging is that you can provide valuable information. A common pitfall is if you don’t make your blog visible to your target audience. You can only make your blog known to your audience if it is properly optimized with the right keywords. Learn what those are through trial and error and tracking your numbers.
  • You don’t promote your posts. Your content will not promote itself. Though a truly attractive post can encourage sharing by itself, generally speaking the promotion must start with you. Use social media to promote your posts to your target audience and encourage people to share the post with their networks also.
  • You don’t keep your face in front of your followers to remind them of your existence. There are likely hundreds and even thousands of competitive blogs out there in your niche. Even if you have hundreds of followers, these people will quickly divert their attention to other blogs if you are not actively engaging them.
  • You don’t set goals. This is a trap many people experience. Blogging may be a freedom platform, but without a specific niche to focus your contents on, it will not go anywhere. Set content and results goals for your posts and work a plan around them.
  • You don’t put yourself in the shoes of your readers. What do you think your readers will feel when reading your posts? How will they react? These assumptions can help you evaluate and edit your posts more effectively to satisfy your audience.
